Cheryl Anne Lorance was born in Muncie, Indiana where she spent most of her childhood and later studied Fine Arts at Ball State University, majoring in painting and sculpture. Awarded a graduate assistantship, she went on to complete a Master of Arts degree in sculpture focusing on bronze casting and using a Creative Arts Grant to fund her Master's thesis on bronze patination.
In 1996, she moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico to continue her artistic pursuits. Since that move she has been a goldsmith for six years, worked at two art bronze foundries, and apprenticed to study glass casting.
The bronzes are produced using the lost-wax casting method. Bronze has been Cheryl's primary choice of material for creating sculptures since her earliest experiences with it. She views the venerable art of casting bronze as "exhilarating...because people have done this since ancient times...there is a thread of tradition, of practice."
