Ron lived his first twenty years in Charleston and by age twenty-five photography became a more serious passion. After a thirty-five year diversion in medicine, his primary focus has returned to photography.
His images center on trying to capture the feeling of a locale, especially Charleston and the lowcountry, primarily through landscape and architecture. A black and white style in which he was trained has been retained.
He feels that the expression of black and white tonal range and contrast is the most pure photograph, especially in a world that is becoming evermore supersaturated with color. The timeless beauty of Charleston is especially suited to monochrome imaging.
Despite an active medical career, he compiled his first show in the mid 1980’s entitled “Charleston Scenes”. It was presented in Nashville, Tennessee, where he has resided since 1974.
He was trained in traditional black and white darkroom and previously studied with photographers George Tice and Cole Weston. More recently, he has studied with Carlan Tapp and Nevada Weir.
During multiple return trips to Charleston and the lowcountry and with constant wandering of the streets, back roads, and beaches, numerous images have been captured.
His current project is rebirthing original material from the late 1970’s and early 1980’s combined with more recent material. The subject remains ”Charleston and Her Lowcountry”.
